Our story

The spark.

In his early days at Duke, co-founder George Konidaris launched a project to take on a classic robotics challenge: developing a motion planning processor that can generate motion plans in real-time. It became clear his team had a real solution on their hands. Rather than just writing a paper, George wanted to make the solution a reality. He connected with fellow professor Dan Sorin, and together they founded Realtime Robotics.

The revolution.

RTR’s first invention was a specialized motion planning processor with custom-purpose circuitry designed to generate motion plans and adapt to workflow changes in real time—allowing enormous flexibility and essentially zeroing out the typical wait time between component movements in a task.

Since then, we’ve been building out a line of revolutionary products and services in support of our ultimate vision: to free the world of dull and dangerous tasks.

Meet the leadership
Peter Howard
Peter Howard

President and CEO

Peter Howard is President & CEO of Realtime Robotics. He has a passion for innovative business formation, and the process of creating order and value out of formative chaos. His roles have included entrepreneur-CEO, investor, and board director. As CEO, Peter has founded and successfully grown four previous companies, leading two to IPOs, one to strategic sale, and another to a major technology license.

Peter has also been integral in the creation and launch of hundreds of innovative products as an industry leader in outsourced R&D and manufacturing services businesses based in the US, Japan, France, the Netherlands, Singapore, and China. Peter holds an MS degree from MIT in Management, and a Professional Director Certification from the American College of Corporate Directors.

Kevin Carlin
Kevin Carlin

CCO

Kevin Carlin is the Chief Commercial Officer at Realtime Robotics. Before that, Kevin has held a wide variety of roles in the semiconductor industry over the past 25 years, including leading the Industrial Automation, Energy and Industrial AI based SaaS Businesses for Analog Devices. Kevin spent 15 years in Europe leading various sales organizations, including 12 years in Germany. He is fluent in German and holds a Bachelor’s and Master's degree in Electronic Engineering & DSP from Ulster University. Kevin is originally from Belfast, N. Ireland and currently resides in Boston, MA.

Steve Dias
Steve Dias

VP, Engineering

Steve Dias is the Vice President of Engineering at Realtime Robotics. Steve has over 30 years of experience in the software industry, building high-performing teams that deliver innovative, high-quality products. At Realtime, Steve ensures engineering fully realizes the company’s vision, driving a dynamic culture built around rapid iteration and continuous delivery. Prior to Realtime, Steve was the Senior Director of Software Engineering at Alert Innovation, where he championed the re-architecture and development of its automation control software to run at scale. Earlier, he served as the Vice President of Engineering at TiVo/Rovi, where he led the transition of its embedded products to SaaS solutions. Steve has led multiple other engineering teams throughout his career, guiding many to 10x growth. Steve has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Cornell University.

Ville Lehtonen
Ville Lehtonen

VP, Product

Ville Lehtonen is the VP Product at Realtime Robotics. He has worked in robotics for over 17 years, with experience spanning Life Sciences, Logistics, and Manufacturing. In Life Sciences, Ville contributed to automation innovation at both LabMinds and HighRes Biosolutions. In Logistics, he led product at Pickle Robot, helping scale AI-powered unloading systems into commercial operation. Most recently, he has focused on real-time motion planning and adaptive control for high-mix manufacturing environments. Ville holds graduate degrees from Oxford University and Aalto University, with a background in both business and computer science. Originally from Finland, he currently resides in Boston, MA.
