As the Senior Director of Software Engineering, you will be responsible for building and supporting a growing software organization.  This role will clarify team responsibilities, build infrastructure so we are better at executing predictably, help define tools and processes to improve the quality of the code we produce, and provide mentorship to our software leaders.

In this position, you will:

  • Constantly evaluate the needs of the business against the capabilities of the team, and make sure that we grow and train as required.

  • Nurture an environment of constant improvement, building a process infrastructure of tools and clear expectations that make it easy for our engineers to flourish.

  • Working with Agile teams, measure performance (metrics) related to quality, efficiency, on time delivery; use this data to prioritize improvement efforts.

  • Collaborate with architects to define design approaches that are aligned with the product vision.

  • Mentor and coach (1:1s), identify and remove technical skill gaps, facilitate performance feedback discussions.

  • Work with technical or non-technical stakeholders to assess software needs.

  • Oversee contracted development work when required.

The position could be a great match if you have:

  • Experience mentoring, developing consensus and accountability, defining work processes, and developing / driving schedules (as opposed to a chief problem-solver).

  • A strong software development background. Although this is not a programming role, tactical involvement in critical software decisions is required.

  • Experience developing, mentoring, and building close-knit, high-performance teams.

  • A commitment to servant leadership, know how to bring the best out of individual team members, can constructively influence team decisions.

  • Experience with project management and schedule ownership, a proven ability to deliver results on time.

  • Familiarity with Agile and Waterfall methodologies and their pros/cons, personal experience with effective development processes.

  • A willingness to learn and grow as well as share knowledge.

  • An appreciation for mature development processes; understand the benefits of documenting before designing.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, able to communicate across all levels of the organization.

  • Must be willing and able to travel within the USA and occasionally internationally.

  • 5+ years of relevant experience overseeing a growing software team.

  • Automation experience is greatly valued.
